Margaret Watterston Aitchison was born about 1834 in Dunbar, Haddingtonshire, Scotland – the daughter of Thomas Aitchison, a surgeon, and Margaret Watterston.
She emigrated to New Zealand and married George Turnbull on 20 July 1861 in Wellington.
George worked in the business of W & G Turnbull, merchants and he was also involved in local body politics.
They had three children and when Margaret signed the suffrage petition they were living in Upper York Place, Dunedin.
George died at their home in 1893 and Margaret died on 15 September 1913, they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
