Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elizabeth Gordon was born on 12 April 1847 in Kildonan, Bute, Scotland – the daughter of George Gordon, a shepherd, and Christina Gilchrist. (See 230 Mrs Gordon)

Elizabeth emigrated to New Zealand with her family on the Strathallan arriving in January 1859.

They lived, at first, at Pareora Station before moving to Waimate in the mid-1860s.

Elizabeth married William Vincent in 1877 and they had five children, one who died in infancy.

The family lived in Oamaru until about 1890 when they moved to Dunedin.

When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living in Hall St, South Dunedin.

William died in 1918 – he is buried with their infant daughter in the Old Oamaru Cemetery.

Elizabeth died on 17 February 1932 at Portobello, near Dunedin – she is buried with their son in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
