Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Jane Hay Cross was born about 1859. She married William Clinkscales Allan, a railway guard, in 1881.

They had five children and, when she signed the suffrage petition, Jane was living with her family in Maitland St, Dunedin. The family moved around the country due to William’s job with the railways. They were living in Wellington when William died in 1909. Jane died in November 1912.

They are buried together in the Karori Cemetery, Wellington.
