Prudence Christie Smith was born on 6 June 1860 in Prestonpans, Haddingtonshire, Scotland – the daughter of Robert Thomas Smith and Margaret Christie.
She came to New Zealand with her parents as a young child where she married Andrew Wood, a plumber, on 18 April 1884 in Dunedin.
They had three daughters and when Prudence signed the suffrage petition they were living in Arthur Street.
Prudence died on 15 July 1950 and Andrew died in 1953 – they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
