Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Nora Jessie Barron was born about 1872 in New Zealand – the daughter of William Barron, a merchant, and Mary Banks.

When Nora signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family at “The Willows” in Caversham, Dunedin.

Nora married Dr William Cochrane Burns on 12 May 1909 at her home in Caversham.

They had one son and they lived in Timaru.

William died in 1960 and Nora died on 4 March 1968 – they were both cremated and their ashes are interred in the Canterbury Memorial Gardens in Bromley, Christchurch.
