Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Nancy Barnes was born about 1825, possibly in England.

She married George Hindle, a crockery importer and dealer, in 1855 in Victoria, Australia.

They had four children, three of who died in infancy, before they travelled to Otago about 1863.

A further two children were born in New Zealand and when Nancy signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Brown St, Dunedin.

They later moved to Christchurch where Nancy died on 7 October 1902.

George died in 1905, they are buried together in the Linwood Cemetery.
