Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Ellenor/Nellie Bridget McNally was born in Ireland in the late 1860’s – the daughter of William McNally and Anne Neville.

She emigrated to New Zealand where she married William Duncanson Houston, a hosier, in 1883 and they had three sons.

When Ellenor signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Allandale, St Clair, Dunedin.

In the 1900’s they moved to Wellington.

Their eldest son Willie died in 1910 and their younger sons both died in WW1 in 1916 and 1918.

William died in Wellington in 1930 – he is buried in the Karori Cemetery.

Ellenor re-married in 1937 to Richard Durant Poole Long. She died at Adelaide, South Australia on 14 July 1938 and is buried in the Magill General Cemetery.
