Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Sarah Mitchell Auld was born in 1868 in New Zealand. The daughter of David Auld and Harriet Mitchell (See 170 Harriet Roberts)

Her parents appear to not have been married as her mother married John William Roberts in 1874.

Sarah married John William Green in 1889 in Victoria, Australia and they had two sons before they came to New Zealand about 1893.

When Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Pine Hill Terrace, North East Valley, Dunedin and John was working as a Government Insurance agent.

Their daughter was born in 1895 – she died the following year.

In 1899 Sarah suffered further loss when, in May 1899 their nine-year-old son William died followed by her husband John who died in July.

Sarah died on 8 September 1953 in Dunedin, she is buried with her family in the Northern Cemetery.
