Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Sarah Jane Cox was born about 1847 in England.

She married Robert Campbell Ferguson, a storekeeper, in New Zealand in 1869.

They had 11 children, two who died in infancy, and lived at first in Tapanui in South Otago.

Robert was declared bankrupt in 1879 and again in 1881.

After this the family moved to Dunedin where Robert died in 1885 from 'brain fever' at the age of 38. He is buried in the Southern Cemetery with three of their children.

When Sarah signed the suffrage petition she was living in Cumberland St, Dunedin.

She died on 20 December 1919 and is buried with another three of their children in the Northern Cemetery.
