Sarah Rebecca Cranston was born about 1862 in Waitahuna, Otago – the daughter of William Cranston, a miner, and Eliza.
She came to Dunedin with her parents in the early 1880s where her father ran a produce shop.
Sarah married James Baker, a presser and widower with two children, at St Matthew’s Church, Dunedin on 26 March 1883.
When Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Cargill Rd, South Dunedin.
James died in 1906 and Sarah died on 14 September 1924, they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
