Sarah Small was born about 1832 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England. She married John Morgan, a licenced victualler, in 1857 in Bristol.
They had six children, two who died in infancy before the family emigrated to Otago in the 1870s and settled in Dunedin.
When Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Castle St and John was working as a builder.
He died in 1895 and Sarah died at her daughter’s home on 27 August 1907. They are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
