Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

This appears to be Sarah Pattinson wife of John Pattinson, miner of Shag Point.

Sarah Falcon was born in Dearham, Cumberland, England in 1853 – the daughter of Joseph Falcon, a farmer and innkeeper, and Martha Salkeld.

She married John Pattinson, a coal miner, in 1874 in Cumberland. They had three children, one who died in infancy, before the family emigrated to New Zealand about 1880.

They had a further four children, one more who died in infancy, and lived at Shag Point in North Otago where Sarah signed the suffrage petition.

In 1908 John claimed compensation from the Allendale Coal Company for an accident sustained at work in which his foot and ankle had been crushed by a fall coal.

John died at Shag Point in 1925 and Sarah died in Dunedin Hospital on 17 January 1931, they are buried in the Palmerston Cemetery.
