Sarah Dawson was born in 1858 in New Zealand – the daughter of William Dawson, a farmer, and Mary Troupe.
She married Duncan Robertson at Fortrose, Southland on 1 February 1884.
They had no children and when Sarah signed the suffrage petition they were living in Tapanui and Duncan was working as a storeman.
They moved to Timaru in the late 1890s and Duncan died there in 1903 when he drowned while on a fishing trip.
Sarah died in Timaru on 30 September 1933, she is buried with Duncan in the Timaru Cemetery.
