Alexandrina McLaren Mason was born on 7 February 1857 in Edinburgh, Scotland – the daughter of William Mason, a drayman, and Janet Shields.
Alexandrina emigrated to Otago on the Pladda with her family in 1860 and they settled in Dunedin.
Her father died in 1863 and her mother re-married eight years later.
Alexandrina married Thomas Scott, a builder, on 19 February 1879 in Dunedin and they had three children.
When she signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Neidpath Rd, Mornington.
Alexandrina died on 15 October 1936 and Thomas died in 1938, they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
