Annabella Smith was born in 1869 in New Zealand – the daughter of Thomas Smith and Jane Aitken.
When she signed the suffrage petition Annabella was living in St Andrews St in East Invercargill working as a dressmaker.
She married John Cawley, a farmer and Presbyterian missionary, in 1898 and they had a daughter in 1907.
They lived in Waiwera South and Dunrobin in South Otago where Annabella died on 23 July 1928, she is buried in the Tapanui Cemetery.
John died in 1963 in Dunedin – he was cremated and his ashes were scattered.
