Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Sophia Sarah Davis was born in England about 1823.

She married James Pellett, a carpenter, on 30 May 1840 in London and they had one son.

They came to New Zealand about 1861 and settled in Dunedin.

They lived, for several years, in Napier’s Bush, Leith St 'near the University'.

James died in 1875 at Union St, Pelichet Bay.

When Sophia signed the suffrage petition she was living with her son in Maclaggan St, Dunedin.

She died on 26 September 1905 at the Benevolent Institute, Dunedin and is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
