Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Agnes Stenhouse was born in Victoria, Australia in 1862 – the daughter of Henry Blyth Stenhouse, a painter, and Margaret Watterson.

Agnes came to Otago with her family in 1869 on the Tararua.

Her mother died in 1892 and, when she signed the suffrage petition, Agnes was living with her father in the family home in Maitland St, Dunedin.

She did not marry and moved with her father to Wellington in the early 1900s. Her father died in 1907 and Agnes died on 13 February 1934. They are buried together in the Karori Cemetery, Wellington.
