Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Susan/Susannah Thompson was born about 1840 in Ireland – the daughter of John Thompson.

She married William Henry Connolly, a carter, on 23 October 1860 in Saintfield, Lisburn, Ireland.

They moved to Renfrewshire, Scotland soon after their marriage and had seven children, one who died in infancy.

The family emigrated to Otago in 1879 on the Napier and settled in Dunedin where they had another two children.

When Susan signed the suffrage petition the family were living in the Hawthorndale subdivision in Roslyn.

Susan died at her home in Greenock St on 22 April 1916 and William died in 1916.

They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
