Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Theresa Whiting was born in 1854 in Oxfordshire, England – the daughter of Isaac Whiting, an agricultural labourer, and Mary Bellamy.

Her mother died in 1859 and her father re-married in 1875 to Emma Hunt. (See 40 Emma Whiting)

Soon after this Theresa and some of her family emigrated to Otago and settled in Dunedin.

She married William Caddick, a labourer, on 8 April 1879 at St Peter’s Church, Caversham.

They lived, at first, in Naseby in Central Otago and they had nine children, one who died in infancy.

When Theresa signed the suffrage petition the family were living Caversham, Dunedin.

They later moved to Wellington where William died in 1915 and Theresa died on 17 May 1927 – they are buried in the family grave in the Karori Cemetery.
