Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Alice Lizzie James was born in New Zealand in 1865 – the daughter of Sydney James, an accountant and Annie Logie.

She married Charles Augustus Edmund Vivian, an accountant in 1888. They had two children.

Charles died in 1897 aged 36, and Alice re-married in February 1906 to Wilfred Vivian, a sharebroker (no known relation). Alice’s daughter Ethel died aged 13 in July of the same year.

Alice and Wilfred moved to Union St and then to Cumberland St which is where Wilfred died in 1926. Alice died on 5 February 1947 at Cumberland St, where her ashes were scattered. Both of her husbands and her daughter are buried in the Northern Cemetery.
