Mareretu Riding roll of honour

The Mareretu Riding roll of honour was presumably unveiled in the Mareretu hall after the Second World War. It was an impressive wooden tablet that listed the names of 18 men from the riding who had served in the First World War (of whom ten had been killed, wounded or gassed), and 28 men who had served in the Second World War (of whom four had been killed in action). Three of the men in the latter list had served in the United States armed forces.

The whereabouts of the roll of honour is unknown. Mareretu, which once had both a school and a hall, now has neither. The roll of honour may survive only as a photograph in the Matakohe Kauri Museum archives.
