Meaning of place nameA Māori boy with the baptismal name of Timothy (Timoti) once carved the words 'Na Timoti' (belonging to Timothy) on the trunk of a tree. This was taken for the name fot he settlement, but Pakeha settlers 'corrected' it to Ngatimoti.
