Farewelling troops in 1914

Image

Crowds farewell New Zealand soldiers aboard the freighter Limerick as it prepares to depart from Wellington in October 1914. Unlike Australia, New Zealand painted its Main Body troop transports grey. On 28 May 1917, the Limerick was sunk by the German submarine U-86 south of Ireland.
