Her father died shortly after her birth and her mother re-married in 1873.
Augusta emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the Scimitar with her mother, step-father and sister and they settled in Dunedin.
When Augusta signed the suffrage petition was living with her widowed mother in Forth St, Dunedin.
She married William John West, a clothing inspector, in 1893 and they had two daughters.
