Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Ann Shearer Miller was born about 1841 in Scotland. She married Hugh McNair, a cooper, on 31 December 1863 in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire.
They must have emigrated soon after their marriage as their first child was born in New Zealand in May 1864.
They were to have 11 children in all.
When Ann signed the suffrage petition the family were living in York Place, Dunedin. Her daughters Grace and Jane also signed the petition.
They later moved to North East Valley where Ann died on 25 March 1904. Hugh died in 1911. They are buried together in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.
